City Charter

Terms of Use

Last updated October 14, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Brief Post, Inc. for your use of the City Charter app and this website. By using them, you agree to these terms.

Using City Charter

City Charter lets you track the streets you walk and see them fill in on a map. You may use it for your personal, non-commercial purposes. You agree not to misuse it: don't reverse engineer it, try to break or overload it, or use it in a way that breaks the law.

Your safety comes first

Pay attention to your surroundings. Don't look at your phone while crossing streets, climbing stairs, or in traffic, and follow all traffic rules and signs.

Stay on public streets, paths and places you are allowed to be. The map may show stairs, trails and paths that are closed, private, unsafe, or not suited to everyone. Don't trespass, and don't enter anywhere you are not permitted to go just to chart it.

Map accuracy

Street data comes from OpenStreetMap and may be incomplete, out of date or wrong. GPS can be inaccurate, especially near tall buildings or trees. The app does its best, but it may mark a street as walked when you didn't, or miss one that you did. Progress figures are for fun and personal motivation, not for navigation or any official purpose.

Your content and data

Your walks and progress are yours and stay on your phone. We don't claim any rights to them. If you send us feedback or ideas, you let us use them to improve City Charter without owing you anything.

Our rights

City Charter, its design, code and logo belong to Brief Post, Inc. and are protected by law. We give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app on your Apple devices. Apple's standard license agreement for apps also applies. Third-party data in the app keeps its own license; see Credits.

Early access

While City Charter is in testing, it may change, contain bugs, or lose data stored on your phone. Features may be added, changed or removed. If we introduce paid features, we'll tell you clearly before you're asked to pay.

No warranty

City Charter is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We don't promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the map or tracking will be accurate.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Brief Post, Inc. isn't liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for any injury, loss or damage that results from your use of the app, including from walking in unsafe conditions or places. Our total liability for any claim is limited to $100. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

Ending use

You can stop using City Charter at any time by deleting the app. We may suspend or end access if these terms are broken or to protect the service.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we'll post it here and update the date above. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California.
